Y2 Home learning for school closure (March 2020)
Dear parents and carers,
The work in the Y2 Home Learning Pack is designed to support your child during any enforced closure. It is important that children continue to work on some key skills and learning whilst away from school but also have time to play and rest.
Where possible, our advice is to develop a learning routine with your child; for example an agreed time when they will complete learning. Children like routine and consistency, and with a school closure, this is likely to cause unrest.
Times Tables Rock Stars – Pupils can practise in ‘Garage Mode’ to ensure they are progressing at the right level.
Numbots– Maths activities and challenges
Purple Mash – There are ‘2do’ tasks which cover topics in Maths, English, Science, History and Computing.
Epic Reading – There are assigned books to read and your child can of course read any additional books that interest them. Please note this can only be accessed for free during normal school hours.
The British Council Website (www.learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org) – aimed for our English as an additional language children (EAL).
Please look at the Junior Chaplaincy section of our website for ideas for Lent, Holy Week and Easter (here) and at the Pupils’ Learning section “Learning at Home” for some spiritual resources for families during school closure time. (here)
Thank you as always for your support and understanding during this time.
Mr Ainsworth & Miss Sirr
R.E. is at the core of our curriculum. We do 2 hours of RE every week, a child led liturgy every Friday and four other sessions of collective worship including Mass or celebration every Thursday. Please look at the dates of Mass and celebration for the term. Do come and join us for Mass and celebration on a Thursday and we would also love for you to join us for our child led liturgy at 2pm on a Friday.
English & Maths
In Year Two we have a daily English lesson and we read every day – please make sure your child remembers their book bag and reading record everyday. The children are encouraged to use their best handwriting at ALL times and to practise every day!
In our Maths lessons we continue to develop our skills in calculating and problem solving using all four operations. By the end of Year Two we will all know our 2s, 5s and 10 times tables.
P.E. takes place every Friday with our specialist sports coach. We have two PE sessions on a Friday, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon. In each session we focus on a different skill. Please ensure that your child has a full and appropriate kit each week as without this, they will not be able to participate in the lesson. Full kit should include trainers for outdoor use and blue or black shorts/ tracksuit bottoms.
Topic and Rotation
Every Wednesday afternoon we will be joining forces with Year 1 and taking part in small, group projects involving many different subject areas such as Cookery, Design Technology and History.
We do Science on a Tuesday afternoon.
We learn about lots of exciting topics in Year Two. These include The Fire of London, Guy Fawkes, Animals and their habitats, Queen Victoria and lots of others. Your children will enjoy telling you what we are learning about at the moment!
