Year 5 & 6 Rotation

SUMMER TERM ROTATION ACTIVITIES

In  rotation the children are taking part in a range of activities including a trip to the York Army Museum, where the children are learning about the importance of teamwork and following instructions in the army. Mr de Koning’s group is using iPads to create an animation.

Mrs Humphries’ group is learning different techniques of drawing using soft pastels. For their task the children are using their new skills to draw a portrait of African animal.

Mrs Maart’s group is learning about reversible and irreversible materials. The children are also making playdough from simple ingredients.

SPRING TERM ROTATION ACTIVITIES

OUR TOPIC IS: LOCAL HISTORY

Mrs Humphries’ group is learning about historic buildings in York. The group is finding out some interesting historical facts about the landscape of York. Then the children are presenting all the  information using Photostory 3 for Windows. This software allows them to create a presentation using pictures, text, sound for background music and voice recordings.

AUTUMN TERM ROTATION ACTIVITIES

Our topic this term is South America.

Mrs Humphries’ group are learning about design patterns of Peruvian (Andean) textiles. We are creating our own decorative motive using Peruvian pattern.

Mrs Maart’s group are making guacamole, tomato salsa and learning how to fold tortilla wraps. On the second session we are also making South American chilli cheese cornbread.

Mrs Stevens’ group are focusing on Science. We are doing two experiments which involve chemical reactions. The first one involves making microwave mug cakes. The second experiment looks at finding the best kitchen cupboard item to create a chemical reaction to inflate a balloon.

Pupils who are with Mr de Koning are planning and making film trailers on various topics. As part of their task they are exploring editing tools on the ipad as well as looking at the structures of film making.
